1920s White Spotted Cotton Tulle Blouse with Sailor Collar

1920s White Spotted Cotton Tulle Blouse with Sailor Collar

This original 1920s blouse is an extremely wearable piece of antique clothing and could conceivably be a little earlier or later, such is the timeless style. Made entirely by hand from a very fine quality cotton tulle with a subtle polka-dot finish. The shirt has an open front which gives way to a lace-trimmed sailor collar over the shoulders and falling down the back. The shirt fastens at the bottom hem on the front with two hidden bronze hook-and-eye clasps. The delicate, slim sleeves are cut to a pretty blouson shape with puff-sleeves and gathered cuffs. The cuffs are detailed with white lace and fastened with two hidden hook-and-eyes. The blouse would have originally been made to be layered over another plainer chemise or high-neck top.  A rare survivor from the period, it would look great paired with a camisole and worn as contemporary daywear with jeans.

The blouse is in superb antique condition; one tiny break in the tulle on the sleeve has been expertly repaired and we spotted a very faint grey mark on the right cuff - both impossible to spot when worn. Labelled a size 14 but this bears no relation to modern sizing so please check our measurements below. We believe it will best fit sizes UK 8-10 or US 4-6 and smaller.
