1950s White Tulle Ballerina Style Wedding Dress
An exquisite example of 1950s bridalwear and made in Italy using alta moda (haute couture) craftsmanship. Reflecting the decade’s romantic ideal of femininity, this charming mid 1950s wedding dress is crafted from layers of stiffened white tulle, creating a voluminous, ballerina-like silhouette. The dress falls just below the knee and follows the classic 1950s line of a fitted bodice, nipped-in waist, and full skirt. The sweetheart neckline is overlaid with a sheer tulle panel for modesty and is held by delicate spaghetti straps. The bodice is beautifully ruched and pleated down the sides, giving a textured, airy finish, while the centre front is adorned with a vertical lace panel that continues through the skirt. The skirt itself is composed of a remarkable eight layers of tulle, a cotton organza underskirt and lastly, a white synthetic petticoat for comfort and structure. The dress fastens at the centre back with a tonal zip and hook-and-eye. The original label reads “Spagnol Venezia”.
This dress is in very good vintage condition. Some tears in the tulle have been expertly repaired by our in-house seamstress on the back of the dress. They are difficult to spot due to the volume of the tulle layers which make up the skirt. We did think about removing the top layer of tulle but settled on repairing as this option could easily be carried out by the new owner. Please check our measurements below as the fabric has no stretch. We think a best fit for a size UK 6-8 or US 2-4. Our model's sizes are: Bust: 34" (87cm), Waist 24" (61cm), Hips: 34" (86cm) and 5' 4" (164cm) and she's a size UK 4-6, US 0-2. This dress was a great fit on her with some room to spare.
